Mediators will have until August 15^th to consider all amicable solutions for the dispute concerning land at Ayodhya.  The Supreme Court recently extended the date to give the panel additional time to work with those involved.  

The panel is headed up by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and includes four other judges as member.  They requested the extension and submitted a report to the judge overseeing the case.  The judge who granted the time stated in response to the request,"If the mediators are optimistic about the result and are seeking time till August 15, what is the harm in granting time? This issue has been pending for years and years.  Why should we not grant time?”

Lawyers representing both the Hindu and Muslim sides of the disputes are all confident that a settlement can be reached that will make all parties happy.  The mediation process has been ongoing and everyone has fully cooperated thus far.  

The mediation panel was constituted by the Supreme Court to explore the possibility of an amicable settlement in the decades-old Ayodhya's Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case.  The panel submitted its interim report in a sealed cover before the Court, which was filed with the apex court Registry on May 6.  The court had appointed former apex court judge FMI Kalifulla, spiritual guru and founder of Art of Living foundation Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu, a renowned mediator, as members of the mediation committee.

To date, 14 appeals have been filed against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment.  Additionally, there have been four civil suits concerning the partitioning of the 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya equally among the three parties -- the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
