City Will Be Footing the Bill for Upcoming Mediation
Thursday, November, 5, 2015
The dispute between the Frankfort Plant Board and the Tanglewood Neighborhood Association will now move to mediation, after only two of the 44 issues were concluded recently.
The two issues that were decided successfully included the city paying for the professional mediator to help settle the dispute and that settling the issue will require more time. The city will pay up to $4000 for a mediator to oversee the process.
The mediation will address questions submitted by the neighborhood association. The plant believes not all of the questions were necessary, but is willing to answer them. Some in the association are concerned over whether the plant board will be able to meet aesthetic requirements in the nearby neighborhood. There was a request that hard surfaces be softened. The plant responded by saying the exterior will be stucco-like and brick, but residents further voiced concerns over a concrete wall located in the parking area of the plant. Suggestions were also made to use landscaping and paint to make the facility more appealing.
Hard feelings are already present between the plant and the neighborhood association. The association has complained about trucks present at the site, and there is overall concern in how the plant and the association communicate. Furthermore, city residents living outside the neighborhood have voiced concerns over the cost of mediation the city is taking on. There is a chance all of these issues could be put to a public vote and included on the ballot for Franklin County residents in an upcoming election. The vote could result in the dissolving of the plant board, which nobody really seems to want.
