Danny Williams, developer in charge of the three acre property being developed in Galway, has chosen not to go to court or use arbitration, despite receiving court approval to file a lawsuit.  Williams is hoping to settle the development dispute with the City of St. John’s using mediation.

Williams is calling for a third-party mediator to come together with his group and the city and end the situation.  According to Williams, “I want to try and get work going on that site.  Right now, we were shut down for the summer — it was done.  The city is saying they want a conveyance and wewere saying we never, ever had any obligation to provide a conveyance.  We will provide land for usage.  That was it, in a nutshell. ”

The dispute arose over a one to three acre plot of land near the water tower in Galway.  St. John’s Mayor wants Williams to give the land to the city for snow storage use during the winter.  The city claims it is not sure how much land is needed for snow storage because it is impossible to tell how much it will snow in the area over the years.

Since Williams has thus far refused to give the land to the city, the city has withheld building permits, which has brought develop and construction to a halt.

The once warm relationship between Williams and the mayor has become icy.

Williams has offered mediation as a solution with a condition – the city must first give his development company the building permits it needed before mediation can begin.
