Dispute Continues between Harbor View Mayor and Neighbor

Monday, April, 11, 2016

Rick Brink, Harbor View, Ohio’s mayor, and his neighbor Jon King are involved in a dispute concerning a granite rock. The rock is about two times the size of a basketball and was originally intended to be a decorative landscaping rock. It was stolen mid-March from the corner of the mayor’s property at East Harbor View drive. He filed a police report two days following the theft.

The rock was located at the side of the house near the corner where King lives. The property line is approximately six inches from the house.

The value of the rock is approximately $40, according to the police report and was purchased approximately eight years ago from a nearby stone company.

Harbor View is located between Lake Erie and Oregon, and is home to just over 100 people.

Mayor Brink reported to the police that the rock was stolen and he believes it was King that took it. He also reported the two are involved in an ongoing feud and that there have been physical threats made against him in the past. He also reported that he and his girlfriend saw King pick up the rock and carry it across the street, tossing it into an empty lot, on three different recent occasions. All three times the mayor returned the rock to its original location.

After finding the rock missing earlier in March, he requested King to replace the rock. King asked him to leave his property and reported to the local newspaper that he never touched or moved the stone. He also denied being involved in a feud with the mayor and denied having threatened him.

The next step is mediation in an attempt to resolve the rock issue and settle the reported ongoing dispute.
