Divorce Mediation Costs and Other Benefits of Mediation

Although divorce mediation costs provide couples with a powerful incentive to keep their divorce away from the far more expensive option of going to court, there are other reasons to choose mediation. Chief among these is the sense of empowerment that can result from a well-structured series of mediation sessions. This can be particularly important for the party in the marriage who has had less power in the marital relationship. While this can sometimes be a result of a financial disparity in the marriage, it is sometimes the result of other factors such as differing interpersonal skills and confidence levels.

Divorce Mediation Costs Less Time than Court

Another major benefit is the time savings that mediation offers. Unlike court, the timing of mediation sessions is under the control of the participants themselves. They can choose to expedite all processes and save time if they wish, or they can build in delays designed to accommodate business or personal matters. This is not always possible when the parties have to coordinate their sessions with a court of law.

Another way in which mediation saves time involves the matter of follow through. Studies have demonstrated that spouses are much more likely to keep to the terms of a mediated settlement. In contrast, court divorces frequently involve the need to return to court in order to have the divorce settlement enforced.

Divorced couples sometimes use employment mediation later to solve workplace disputes.
