Dunkin Donuts Park Dispute Continues after Mediation Attempt

Friday, June, 16, 2017

Just one mediation attempt was all it took for Centerplan Construction to inform the Hartford Superior Court that they had reached an impasse with the City of Hartford concerning the dispute over Dunkin’ Donuts Park.  The dispute is related to construction issues.  Dunkin’ Donuts Park is where the Hartford Yard Goat, a Class AA Eastern League baseball team plays its home games.

Centerplan began construction of the park, but then proceeded to miss a series of construction deadlines.  This lead to the termination of the development contract for Centerplan and DoNO Hartford LLC in June 2016.  Both companies responded to the termination with a lawsuit filed against the city the following month.  The termination was at the heart of the lawsuit and the court ordered mediation as a means of resolution.

The first order for mediation session came in December 2016 and was deemed unsuccessful.  Centerplan and its attorneys requested a jury trial at that time.

According to Hartford Business, the area’s business newspaper, “In a letter… to Hartford Superior Court Judge David M. Sheridan, Centerplan informs the court that after one mediation session on June 7, the parties had reached an impasse. ” The letter went on to explain that the mediator felt further efforts would likely be useless.   The letter also requested the court to set a trial date.

Unfortunately, the debut of the stadium has been affected by the dispute.   The Yard Goats were already forced to play all of last season on the road, and the 2017 debut of the ballpark has been delayed.
