Mediation Continues between Cheboygan and Inverness Township
Saturday, December, 16, 2017
Mediation has begun between Inverness Township and the City of Cheboygan. According to City manager Tom Eustice, there has been little progress thus far. The mediator is working with both sides separately, and is considering working with council members individually, as well. The two sides are in dispute over an agreement concerning the area’s sewer and water supply system.
Data was given to Cheboygan County Administrator Jeff Lawson by the city concerning the original sewer agreement. It came with an interpretation of the agreement concerning the concept and the cost. Additionally, the city gave Lawson the current utility service agreement, as well as updates the city is hoping to get.
According to Eustice, “We do not believe, our committee does not believe that the changes that we made to the sewer agreement are that significant. So, the township seems to be balking at that, that has something that he is going to discuss with the township, as far as what their input is and exactly what they want. ”
Eustice believes the original agreement is not without flaws and that the city’s goal is to just improve on those flaws and to get water to the development site in question.
In addition to the issues concerning the mediation of the water agreement, Eustice also addressed issues concerning the Parade of Lights event that takes place at the kickoff of the holiday season and moves throughout downtown. Those involved compromised and closed the east side of Main Street, permitting parking along the west side from Elm to State Street.
