Mediation Set for Veterinarian Accused of Killing Cat
Thursday, March, 10, 2016
The administrative hearing scheduled for a Texas veterinarian who shot a cat in the head with a bow and arrow will not go on as planned, instead those involved will attempt to settle the case through mediation. The veterinarian, Dr. Kristen Lindsey, boasted on social media about her actions and she is now requesting mediation with the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. The board is attempting to revoke her license based on animal cruelty allegations.
The mediation will be private and take place in mid-March in Austin, TX. It is expected to last for at least a month. Should mediation fail to settle the dispute between the doctor and the board, the hearing will continue as planned.
The dispute has been in the public eye from the very beginning after the 32 year old veterinarian posted a photo of herself and the victimized cat on her Facebook page captioned “My first bow kill (cat emoji” lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through its head! Vet of the year award… gladly accepted.” Lindsey stated in official testimony that she did not believe the cat was infected with rabies.
Lindsey faced tremendous public scorn following the post that went viral. Eventually it grew into accusations that the cat was not feral but was actually a pet belonging to neighbors who lived across the street from Lindsey.
Though a grand jury in Austin did not indict Lindsey, citing lack of sufficient proof a crime was committed; she could still face a civil lawsuit and lose her license to practice animal medicine.
