Mobile Mediation
A Hawaii mediator formerly associated with Virtual Mediation Lab has a new creation, known as Mobile Mediation. As more people seek dispute resolution alternatives, mediation is a growing field with a strong need for more mediators. Giuseppe Leone, a successful Honolulu area mediator, has been at the forefront of developing technology to meet the growing need for mediation. Mediation is known for speeding up procedures, reducing hostility between opposing parties, and allowing individuals to work together towards a solution, and Leone’s technology is helping to make mediation more accessible to all.
His first project, Virtual Mediation Lab, used Skype to train mediators around the world with mock scenarios and educational tips on how to approach various situations more effectively. Leone’s work helped to break down the basic concepts of mediation and allow both new and old mediators to increase their understandings of the field. The use of technology to educator mediators is also bringing fresh blood to the field by making the ins and outs of the process more transparent and providing relevant suggestions and feedback for real scenarios.
Leone expects that the interest in mobile mediation will grow as more people rely on their iPhone, iPad, and Android devices to conduct their everyday business. For situations where sharing physical evidence might otherwise be challenging, a mobile device might allow instant sharing of visual details that can help everyone at the virtual table come to an agreement.
Leone is committed to making mediation easier for both the parties involved in the dispute and the mediators themselves. His project launches this summer, educating mediators about appropriate protocol for mobile mediation. He hopes that he and the mediators will learn some new tips and tricks that will allow disputes to be settled more efficiently and effectively using technology that many people are already familiar with.
