Trinity College Calls on Mediator to Resolve Disputes
Wednesday, December, 6, 2017
An email recently sent to students attending Trinity College stated the Heads Team and Dean of Students Office are working with a third-party mediator to resolve the recent vote of no-confidence in the Dean’s office that occurred in September. The email also announced that Saints Ball, which is the licensed charity semi-formal event that is hosted by the school would go on as usual, ending the recent ban on alcohol-licensed events instituted by Provost Mayo Moran. According to the email, it would be only a temporary postponement of the ban that would be based on student behavior.
According to the email, the mediation will hopefully restore trust and a better working relationship. The mediator appointed by Moran, Christ McGrath, currently works as the Associate Vice President Student Experience and Registrar at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He has several years of experience working with students that include a term working as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at Trinity for five years.
A statement issued by Dean of Students Kristen Moore said, “As our discussions to date have been positive, we were able to proceed with the Saints Ball in a manner that helps to preserve a fun and positive experience, while emphasizing safety for all students. The Heads Team and Dean’s Office are committed to continuing to work together to ensure a positive student experience at Trinity ”.
A new rule was also introduced this year for the ball which put an end to any in-and-out privileges. Anyone leaving the ball and then attempting to re-enter would have their wristbands cut off in an attempt to maintain student safety, according to a Facebook post by the school.
