Mediation: Statement Issued by Warren Township Education Association
A mediation statement issued by the Warren Township Education Association today flatly rejected the board of education's offer to teachers. The board's official offer consisted of a three-year salary agreement in which teachers would earn 1% raises in the first and last years with no increase at all during the intervening year. "That offer would have our members working for less money than they are presently making in Warren and was therefore rejected," the WTEA statement read, implying that raises must at least keep pace with the rate of inflation.
Mediation: Statement Reveals Standoff
The teachers' union is also standing firm in rejecting the district's position that the unit must unilaterally switch to the state health plan instead of the locally bargained insurance plan currently in effect. The union has been working without a contract for almost a full calendar year now and is engaged in fact-finding. The union's statement noted that the district is high performing and in a sound state when it comes to budget issues, concluding with a promise to "accept a fair and equitable offer. . . We believe we are a value to the community and to our students."
The WTEA is urging local residents to contact their members on the Warren Township Board of Education in order to express support for the position held by the bargaining unit.
