Coronavirus Has Brought An Increase In The Request For Video Mediation For Divorcing Couples

Wednesday, April, 8, 2020

Mediation is known to be one of the best tools for resolving divorce and those while ending their marriages during the COVID-19 outbreak are not changing that trend.  The change they are making is conducting business via video conference.  California and other states expect to see an increase in video conference mediations in the family court system.  The state recently announced the demand for video conferencing mediation services is at an all-time high.

The health pandemic has delayed court proceedings across the country.  Those who were going through a divorce when the courts shut down were faced with additional stress due to the delays.  The video conferencing option resolved these issues for many couples who were able to move forward with their settlement negotiations and other issues affecting them in the divorce process.

In Santa Clara, the cost of the service is less than $400 per hour.  Most couples split the cost of the service or include it in the divorce settlement arrangement.

Video conference mediation offers all of the same benefits of mediation but makes the process even more convenient because everyone can remain safe and in the comfort of their own homes.

According to Kevin Boileau of Santa Clara Divorce Mediation, “Although we could never have anticipated the size and scale of the coronavirus outbreak, we have always planned and designed our divorce mediation services to operate remotely.  This has proved to be a very astute move, as we are still able to offer a full and efficient mediation service to our clients, regardless of their location.  Divorce Mediation Services are proving to be a very popular and cost-efficient way of resolving a divorce.  This is because compared to the traditional way of dealing with a divorce, mediation is a much more cost-effective and efficient way of resolving the situation. ”
