The lawsuit between Emery County and Leslie Bolinder has been settled in mediation.  Bolinder was a former senior administrative assistant working for Emery County Commissioners.  She had worked for the county for nearly 28 years.  

Bolinder will receive $75,000 as a result of the mediation resolution, which will be paid by the county’s insurance company.  

The dispute began was Bolinder was terminated from her position.  Attorneys were called in to review the county’s policies and determine if things were in compliance with the state statute.   According to county officials, Emery County’s policies were based on other counties in the area.  

The manual created for policies discussed a number of issues including at-will employment and discrimination, both of which affected the Bolinder case.  

One commissioner pointed out that in the private sector employees can be fired for a variety of reasons, but in the public sector where employees have contracts, it was far more difficult to terminate someone.  The commissioners have reviewed the steps for dealing with a non-performing employee and discussed the appropriate measures for dealing with such an employee.

According to Bolinder, she was called into a meeting in June 2016 and told her position was being eliminated and replaced by three part-time secretaries.
