Monday, January, 29, 2018
Garrison Keillor, host of A Prairie Home Companion and humorist, has begun negotiation with Minnesota Public Radio after he was terminated. The termination occurred because of accusations against Keillor that he had behaved inappropriately.
According to a post on Keillor’s Facebook page, there have already been two mediation sessions that took place at a law firm in Minneapolis. No further details were given in the post and he told the AP that he could not discuss the details of the negotiation until it was over.
A spokeswoman for the St. Pau-based MPR stated that both sides are taking about the issues “related to their business relationship. ”
The announcement that Keillor was being terminated came in late November following the allegations made against him. The allegations came from a women who worked with him. Keillor claimed the allegations arose after he tried to console the woman by placing his hand on her back.
Fans of A Prairie Home Companion and Keillor in general criticized MPR for the termination. Keillor had been sharing stories on his show for more than four decades about the fictional town of Lake Wobegon.
MPR claims the allegations against Keillor were carefully investigated before his termination.
In addition to A Prairie Home Companion, MPR also ended Keillor’s daily reading of literary events, as well as a poem that had been posted to its website. It also ended all re-broadcasts of Keillor-hosted shows.
