Gena is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and a Supreme Court certified county court mediator. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with her Masters degree in Counselor Education and her Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has been licensed in the state of Florida since 2012.
Gena has experience working with individuals, couples, and families who are struggling with relationship issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, she has extensive experience working with adults diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness in a case management capacity.
Gena has worked in non-profit organizations throughout Central Florida, where she had the privilege of working in diverse settings including: inpatient hospitalization, crisis stabilization, community based mental health, substance abuse services, and assessment/diagnostic services.
Gena creates a safe, nonjudgmental, and understanding space for her clients and she greets her clients with empathy and compassion. Gena's approach to therapy is to facilitate improved communication and conflict resolution and she uses Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered, and Strength-Based techniques to support, guide and empower her clients as they work to achieve their goals.
As the daughter of Caribbean immigrants, Gena has a keen understanding of the unique cultures, customs, and needs of individuals, families, and groups of Black/African/African-American and Caribbean ancestry. She has the knowledge and skills necessary to provide culturally-sensitive and evidence-based mental health services to residents of Florida who are of Caribbean descent.
