Sometimes people are so close to or so invested in their particular problem or issue that it is difficult to understand much less appreciate what may be a reasonable viewpoint of an opposing party. Resorting to a trial of their issue takes the control away from the parties involved and puts it in the hands of jurors who are strangers to the parties. Mediation leaves the control of the resolution in the hands of those who know the issues best.
