Judge John Morrissey offers mediation services to those involved in disputes throughout Illinois. After retiring as a Cook County Circuit judge in 2006, he has facilitated personal injury, product liability, commercial, business, and construction disputes, and is an approved mediator in the Cook County Court Mediation Program.
Judge Morrissey specializes in Settlement Day mediation. This means he can mediate as many as eight cases per day because he oversees the final phase of each mediation.
As a sitting judge in Cook County from 1983 to 2006, Morrissey presided over thousands of cases to verdict and finding in the Illinois criminal court system. During his career in the Law Division, he had approximately 100 civil verdicts and findings, including commercial law cases. Judge Morrissey understands that not all legal matters are best settled in court. Over the years, he saw the toll the courtroom took on people, especially those dealing with personal injury issues and the passing of loved ones. He knows that litigation can damage relationships that might otherwise be saved and continue to serve a mutually beneficial purposes. His experience is a big reason why he believes mediation is so effective.
Judge Morrissey served as a chair of the Chicago Bar Association in the civil litigation and mediation sections. He was honorably discharged from the US Army and has been married for 37 years. He and his wife have three children.
