Monty A. McIntyre follows his passions for the law and serving others by serving as a mediator, arbitrator and motion referee to help individuals, businesses and lawyers obtain rapid, reasonable resolution of disputes.
In mediations Mr. McIntyre guides the parties and their counsel through a mediated negotiation™ to help them obtain closure in challenging, complex and/or emotionally charged cases that appear to be irresolvable.
As a mediator, arbitrator and motion referee Mr. McIntyre brings a unique combination of background and experience to the table:
• He has been a civil trial lawyer for over thirty years representing both plaintiffs and defendants in business, commercial, construction, insurance, real estate, and tort (medical malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death) litigation, has tried to conclusion over thirty civil jury trials and more than one hundred cases including jury trials, bench trials and arbitrations, and has been a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) since 1995;
• In 1993 Mr. McIntyre was trained as a mediator by the American Arbitration Association in San Diego, he has regularly continued his mediation training since then including learning directly from some of the top mediators such as Tony Piazza and completing courses including Mediating the Litigated Case at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University, and he has helped attorneys and parties settle more than 1,000 civil cases as a private mediator and a mediator on the Civil Mediation Panel of the San Diego Superior Court;
• Mr. McIntyre began serving as an arbitrator in 1985 as a San Diego Superior Court Arbitrator, and he has also served as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association in San Diego, a party arbitrator in Kaiser Arbitrations, and a private arbitrator;
• Mr. McIntyre stays current with the changes in California law and every two weeks publishes McIntyre's California Civil Law Update.
Mr. McIntyre is and has been a leader in the local and national legal community. In 2014 he will be the President of the San Diego Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He was the President of the San Diego County Bar Association in 2002 and was a member of the SDCBA Board of Directors from 1999 to 2001. Mr. McIntyre was a delegate in the American Bar Association House of Delegates from 2005 to 2012. From 2006-2010, Mr. McIntyre served as a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Judicial Independence. From 2003-2006, Mr. McIntyre was a member of the Executive Council of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. He has also previously served as a Lawyer Representative for the Southern District of California, a Board member of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and an Officer and Board member of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego.
