Richard and John are both certified as mediators by the Bar Association of San Francisco. They work together as co-mediators, helping settlors, trustees and beneficiaries of trusts, and personal representatives and beneficiaries of decedents¹ estates, resolve conflicts among themselves in connection with the administration and distribution of trusts and estates, either before or during litigation, in a tax efficient and constructive manner.
Richard Kinyon Bio
Richard is a partner in the Family Wealth Planning practice group of the law firm of Shartsis Friese LLP. He specializes in the design and implementation of complex domestic and international estate plans for high-net-worth U.S. resident and non-resident individuals, including the establishment of various sophisticated irrevocable trusts and family investment companies and how to pass interests in their family business and investment companies to younger-generation family members and others in a tax-advantaged and creditor-protected manner, minimizing inter-family conflict. He also advises fiduciaries and beneficiaries regarding the administration of estates and trusts, including fiduciary litigation matters. Mr. Kinyon has been certified as a Specialist in Taxation Law by the California Board of Legal Specialization since 1973, and he also is certified as a mediator by the Bar Association of San Francisco, specializing in mediating disputes among litigants and other parties involving their interests in trusts and estates or other jointly owned property.
John Kinyon Bio
John has devoted his life and career to the furthering of empathic communication and human connection around the world. He is the co-creator of the international Mediate Your Life Training Program that is based in the work of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and integrates a mediation framework, mindfulness, and neuroscience. The training provides skills and conversation “maps” for navigating challenges and conflicts, inner and outer, in all aspects of life. The focus of John’s work now is deep connection from disconnection through mindfulness in conversation. He has been a certified trainer of the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) since 2000.
