Attorney Sharon Scudder is admitted to practice in North Carolina state courts and in federal courts. Sharon has been elected and is currently serving as the Vice President of the 3B Judicial District Bar.  Sharon is a member of the Carteret County Bar Association.

In addition to practicing civil litigation, workers' compensation, contract law, and local government law, Sharon is also a North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission Certified Superior Court Mediator.  She mediates civil liability and workers' compensation cases, and public entity disputes.

 
Prior to opening Scudder Law, Sharon's legal career included being an intern at the North Carolina Supreme Court and being a civil litigator at Teague Campbell Dennis & Gorham in Raleigh, where she represented businesses, health care professionals, counties, municipalities, law enforcement officers, non-profit organizations, realtors, insurance brokers and other businesses and individuals.
Sharon also served as General Counsel for the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, where she managed internal legal issues, advocated at the General Assembly for local government interests, developed amicus curiae briefs, and educated county officials and personnel across the state regarding legal issues and responsibilities. In this role, Sharon also served as the chief legal advisor to the NCACC Board of Directors, Board of Trustees and the NCACC Risk Management Pools.


Sharon was a National Merit Scholar, and graduated with academic honors from North Carolina State University in 1989 with
undergraduate degrees in both chemistry and science education. Sharon earned a Masters' Degree in Communication Science and Disorders from Radford University at the top of her class and received the Graduate School award for the most outstanding research thesis. 


Sharon graduated magna cum laude with a Juris Doctorate degree from Campbell Law School, where she was named to the Order of Old Kivett for outstanding lawyering skills, and she successfully competed in national appellate argument competitions. Sharon was the Comments Editor of the law review, and received ten Book Awards in law school for the highest academic achievement in Legal Research and Writing, Torts II, Advanced Trial Advocacy, Pre-trial Litigation, Property II, Advanced Real Property III, Professional Ethics, Constitutional Law II, Christian Legal Perspectives, and Constitutional History. Sharon served as a Research and Writing Scholar and as a Webster Scholar, assisting Professor Patrick Hetrick in editing Webster's Real Estate Law in North Carolina.  Sharon received the I. Beverly Lake Award for outstanding contributions to constitutional law, and the Fred O. Dennis Award for excellent professional representation.


Sharon has developed and taught continuing education courses in premises liability, wrongful death claims, realtor best practices and risk management, risk management in clinical practice, hearing loss claims, ethical issues in insurance, public records law, governmental official legal authority, procedural issues for board chairs, and overviews of legislative developments at the General Assembly. Sharon has also taught undergraduate college courses in communications, legal research and writing courses, and has published in four national peer-reviewed journals.
